The past year has been an exciting one for The Ritz-Carlton. Our brand was ranked No. 1 in the luxury segment in the J.D. Power 2016 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index Study — with the highest score in the study’s history. Global Traveler magazine readers awarded The Ritz-Carlton as the world’s best international and domestic hotel chain. And research on global affluent travelers from the Luxury Institute named The Ritz-Carlton as the brand most likely to make guests feel special, as well as the top-ranked company for delivering consistently superior quality. I am incredibly proud of these results, which are a testament to the committed efforts of our 40,000 Ladies and Gentlemen around the world.
Also in 2016, Marriott International joined with Starwood Hotels & Resorts, making The Ritz-Carlton part of the biggest luxury hotel company in the world. The merger brings an unprecedented expansion of our loyalty program, including access to benefits at over 5,700 hotels and resorts in more than 110 countries, and ushers in a new era of travel.
The year ahead is just as exciting. Our growing portfolio of hotels will see new openings in China, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in 2017. We look forward to sharing unique, memorable travel moments with our guests at over 100 Ritz-Carlton hotels worldwide.
