January 1st is America’s National Bloody Mary Day, so when better to enjoy this brunch classic than on New Year’s Day? The mixologists at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay share their favorite recipe, which features a slightly salty-spicy kick and the garnish of your choice.

  • 1 (4-ounce) package sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1 (46-ounce) bottle vegetable juice (i.e. V-8)
  • 32 ounces Clamato juice
  • 1/2 cup horseradish
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 2 teaspoons beef base
  • 1 1/2 cups vodka, chilled

Serve over ice in a celery-salt rimmed glass and garnish with a cooked, peeled shrimp and a fresh stalk of celery  The perfect first course to any brunch!

Looking for a twist on the same old tomato juice? Try a freshly puréed tomato juice, blended tomatillo juice or a savory Clamato juice.

Strips of crispy bacon, fresh citrus and crunchy vegetables make flavorful bloody mary garnishes.

Spice up your bloody mary bar with a little heat: fresh peppers and rims with cayenne, salt and pepper.
